Vodka

By definition vodka, is an unaged, colorless, odorless spirit.  Today, however, this definition does not exactly hold true.  The spirit can be made from any starch/sugar-rich plant matter: wheat, rye, potatoes, molasses, soybeans or even grapes.

Vodka came to be a huge part of both Polish and Russian culture (both claim it as their own), as it was being distilled even before the word 'vodka' came into general use. Although it has been described by many other names, 'vodka' is a diminutive of the word 'voda,' which translates as "water" in Russian.

Vodka is distilled several times at very high proofs and then filtered through vegetable charcoal. The higher the proof is, the lesser the flavor and clearer the color.  Vodka is in fact celebrated for the very fact that it is colorless and odorless, essentially for its "non-characteristics."  Perhaps this isn’t appealing in its own right, but it does make vodka a great cocktail and mixing beverage, so amiable to many different kinds of ingredients - even orange juice!

The ceiling on vodka is still being established.  It is the most widely consumed spirit on the planet by far, outpacing rum, whisky and brandies.

Winebow is very proud to represent LiV Vodka - one of a handful of Ultra Premium artisanal Vodkas that is small batch distilled from 100% potatoes - as well as true craft vodka produced in California: Hangar One.
