French wine has been exported more than any other wine in the world. As a wine-loving, but not a wine-producing, nation, Great Britain imported substantial amounts of wine from its closest neighbor - France, particularly from Bordeaux. This subsequently spread the country's fame around the world with its global empire, and caused the wines of France to be recognizable on a global stage. It also forced French winemakers to spend centuries perfecting their craft to compete on the export market.
Over time, various regions in France developed distinct identities for their wines, using many different grape varieties and winemaking practices to produce their areas’ best possible wines. In many cases, several different traditions were established side by side, such as a white wine and a red wine from the same region or even two distinct red wines from adjoining districts - but to the exclusion of all other possible grape/method combinations. These traditions were codified into the AOC system in the 20th century, and it is these traditions that set many standards for the wine world today.
Within this fascinating, richly varied and complex world of French wines, Winebow is honored to represent three exceptional portfolios: Kermit Lynch, Origine Selections and Stacole Fine Wines.
