South Africa

South Africa is the land of ‘Steen’ (Chenin Blanc), ‘Pinotage’ (a cross of Pinot Noir and Cinsaut), and so much more: its wines are often referred to as the bridge between the Old and New Worlds.

The history of this country is steeped in richly diverse historical influences, particularly those of the Dutch and French. The wine growing regions are situated in some of the most breathtakingly scenic landscapes in the world. Vineyards in the Western Cape region benefit from lots of sunshine at a cooler climate, caused in part by the Benguela Current, and are uniquely located at the confluence of two oceans - the Indian and the Atlantic.

South Africa offers a rich tapestry of different terroirs - the region of Stellenbosch alone is characterized by fifty different soil types. Since the 1980s, grape growers have really tapped into this complexity, and with quality as the focus, their exports are on the rise.

Winebow is pleased to offer you a portfolio that is focused on small, family-owned, estate properties, representing the very best from South Africa’s 300 year-old winemaking heritage.
