In the Mosel Valley, Riesling is king. A third of all of Germany’s Riesling is grown in this picturesque region full of terraced vineyards, quaint villages, and ancient castles. Winemaking has been common here for millennia and in this valley, traditional practices go hand-in-hand with modern technologies.
Clean Slate Riesling is a partnership between Winebow and Moselland, one of Germany’s largest winegrowing cooperatives. The Cooperative produces a fruity and graceful expression of this iconic varietal at consumer-friendly prices.
The Mosel is a cool climate winegrowing region, but also one of Germany’s warmest climates due to its location in a sheltered valley. The thin slate stones, common to vineyards in this area, reflect and retain the day’s heat, keeping the soil warm as the night falls which encourages ideal ripeness of the grapes.
The slate imbues the Riesling with a clean and crisp minerality—hence the “Clean Slate” moniker. Wine Enthusiast said Clean Slate Riesling “maintains the characteristic verve and elegance of the Mosel at an impressively low price.”
Clean Slate Riesling was purposely created to be a bright and friendly introduction to the region’s famous grape. With a low ABV of just 10.6%, this is some of the best entry-level Riesling available for a U.S. consumer audience.
The fresh peach and lime notes are balanced by a lovely acidity, making Clean Slate an excellent accompaniment to Indian and Asian cuisine as well as traditional German fare.
