Wine Description

Xavier Monnot is a leading producer in Meursault whose winemaking style emphasizes purity of fruit, elegance, and complexity. Prior to the release of the 2005 vintage, the property was known as Domaine René Monnier (Xavier's grandfather). In 2005, along with improvements in the vineyard and cellar, Xavier began bottling his wines under his own label.

Domaine Xavier Monnot is a 42-acre estate in Meursault with vineyards stretching from Beaune to Maranges. 60% of the Domaine's production is white and 40% red with several premier crus in Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Beaune, Volnay, and Maranges. Xavier believes in maintaining an average vine age of 30 to 40 years and practices lutte raisonnée (“reasoned struggle”).

Le Limozin is a lieu-dit situated just below the Meursault premier cru Les Genevrières and is named after a stream that used to flow near the vineyards. It is one of several lieux-dits in Meursault that perform above their official “village” level status. Le Limozin typically gives a wine that is broad and expansive thanks to a mix of clay and limestone soil and Monnot’s old vines (planted in 1961 and 1976) deliver an especially concentrated version. Aged from 12 to 14 months in 15-20% percent new French oak.

Acclaim
“Though rich and honeyed, this white is backed by lively acidity, showcasing lemon cake, apple and peach fruit. Vanilla and clove accents add detail as this cruises to a long finish.”
— Wine Spectator, Aug 2019
“The 2016 Meursault Le Limozin has a zippy, refreshing citrus lemon and fresh apricot-scented bouquet that opens nicely with aeration. The palate is quite concentrated and spicy for a village cru. There is good weight in the mouth and it segues into a lemongrass-tinged, quite sustained finish that deserves a round of applause. A very worthy follow-up to the 2015.”
— Wine Advocate, Dec 2017
