Acclaim
“Deeper, darker shadings than in his other wines of this cepage and vintage – tobacco, coffee, roasted root vegetables and ore-like minerality – inform Pichler’s 2010 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Kollmutz. A bite of black pepper, prickle of citrus rind, and seemingly crystalline mineral impingements serve for invigoration in an otherwise rich, expansive, glycerin-rich performance. There is no hint of warmth or roughness from this wine’s 14.4% alcohol and it finishes with ample juiciness and even a sense of lift that defies not only its alcoholic weight but also its dark flavor shadings. This ought to perform profoundly for another decade.”
