Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

Zenato Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

Wine Description

Zenato Amarone is a blend of Corvina and Rondinella, with a touch of Croatina and Oseleta. Corvina is prized not only for its intense marasca cherry flavor, but also its ability to withstand the drying process.  Used in small quantities Rondinella also fares well in drying, and contributes dark color and an alluring floral note.  Oseleta provides tannic structure and minerality; while Croatina is introduced to add youthful fruitiness. All this attention to detail pays off in a wine that is immediately approachable yet unmistakably ageworthy.

Acclaim
“Pungent on the nose, this smells of baking spice drawer, black raisins and roasted black figs drenched in aged balsamic vinegar. The attack is hearty, rather thick and high in alcohol. It tastes almost like a black plum paste. The finish lingers with fine tannins and good intensity. The modest freshness makes this slightly cloying on the back palate.” — The New Wine Review, Jul 2023
“The 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico opens with an herbal thrust that gives way to dried violets, lavender and crushed blackberries. It is sleek and racy in feel with lifted textures and tart wild berry fruits offset by zesty acidity. It tapers off long and staining, lifted by a bump of residual acidity as notes of red plum leave a pleasantly tart sensation. I quite like the energy here and expect that the 2018 will enjoy a broad and open drinking window.” — Vinous, Feb 2024
