Bodega Garzón
Brand Description
When Alejandro and Bettina Bulgheroni founded Garzón, they dreamed of creating a winery emblematic of modern winemaking in Uruguay. Today, Garzón is known for its exceptional wines with a strong personality and a deep belonging with the land. They collaborated with Alberto Antonini, a highly regarded winemaker, to apply their terroir-driven philosophy. The leadership team at Bodega Garzón includes experts in wine, environmental care, gastronomy, hospitality, and tourism all committed to the development of this terroir's ultimate expression.
Location of Vineyard
Garzón's vineyards are only 11 miles from the cooling Atlantic coast and 525 feet above sea level. The winery boasts more than 20 grape varieties planted across 1,300 small vineyard blocks covering hillside slopes, each with its own distinct microclimate. Lush indigenous forests and palm trees surround the vineyards. Well-draining granitic soils and Atlantic breezes allow the grapes to ripen steadily and develop complex, vibrant, and energetic characteristics.
Built on natural terraces, the state-of-the-art winery employs a gravity flow design to ensure quality and minimize use of resources. The solar and wind-powered winery, with a 2.2-million-liter capacity, is the first LEED-certified winery outside of North America. The Silver Certification includes the winery, vineyards, and hospitality area.
Winemaking and Viticulture Philosophy
Bodega Garzón is the leading Uruguayan exporter to the USA, UK, and Asia. From the Reserva Range up to the Single Vineyard Tier and culminating with the icon wine, Balasto, Garzón's wines introduce wine drinkers to fresh, textured, and rich wines that exude the unique terroir of Uruguay's Atlantic Coast.
