Labouré-Roi

Brand Description

The history of Labouré-Roi is closely related to that of Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the heart of the emblematic Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. Founded in 1832, the house has always been able to combine expertise and excellence to become the ambassador of the appellations of these exceptional terroirs.

The entry point to Burgundy
With its worldwide reputation, and notably great successes with international Airlines and Cruises, and a long-term, close partnership with a lot of estates and winegrowers, the House’s vocation is to be the gateway to Burgundy volumes drivers and classical appellations vinified and aged  at the heart of the Côte de Nuits.
The historical roots of the House at the heart of one of the most fragmented and prestigious wine-producing regions in the world have shaped a philosophy focused on excellence and discovery. For nearly 200 years, Labouré-Roi has enabled wine lovers from all over the world to access the prestigious appellations of these legendary vineyards.

Location of Vineyard

In-depth knowledge of the soil characteristics, orientation and potential of each plot, accompanied by unique expertise in barrel selection and the vinification and ageing of Burgundy’s great wines have resulted in Labouré-Roi becoming recognised and appreciated throughout the world.
In Burgundy more than anywhere else, the négociant-éleveur or wine merchant-producer plays a pivotal role in the quest for excellence.
The négociant-éleveur profession is one of the distinctive features of Burgundy wine production, which also testifies to the richness      and sometimes the relative complexity of this region unlike any other, in which some of the most renowned and highest-quality wines in the world are produced.

In Burgundy, every plot has its own story.
A vital link in the chain between the winegrower and the consumer, our company produces fine wines from grapes and musts produced in close collaboration with our partner winegrowers throughout the year, through to the harvests.

Winemaking and Viticulture Philosophy

For Célénie DESARBRES, the work begins in the vineyard.
An expert in the relationship between winemaking and grape growing, she embodies the link between two inseparable aspects of our profession: work in the vineyard and work in the winery.
Her expertise in both fields enables a close collaboration. Knowledge of each climat, research and observation of the plots, discussions with growers, advice and support for each of our partners, and deciding the optimal harvest date together, are the basis of the special relationship that we have maintained for decades with Burgundy’s winegrowers.

Barrel selection is also a key element of our role.
Célénie chooses the barrels, the degree of toasting and the wood from several coopers and decides on the proportion of barrels that is renewed.
Our barrels are custom made. Their action is part of the subtle exchange between the wine and the wood that contributes certain flavours and aromas to the wine, up to bottling.
