Portia Prima

Portia Prima

Wine Description

Bodegas Portia is Grupo Faustino’s most recent winery project and is the 7th winery in the group. Located in the heart of Ribera del Duero, the Portia winery is a display of modern design, winemaking function and artistic detail. The brand offers very small production wines - intense, energetic & balanced. Prima is part of Portia's "Vino de autor" category, with a strong emphasis on the winemaker's individual style and idea of reflection of terroir characteristics. The name "Prima" refers back to latin name of the first phase of the moon.

Acclaim
“Deep ruby to the eye, this wine offers aromas of cassis, purple plum, nutmeg and sage. Velvety tannins and toasty spice notes that settle on the tongue and gums are enlivened by raspberry, ripe cherry, milk chocolate, violet and clove flavors that softly sail into a drawn-out finish.” — Wine Enthusiast, Oct 2024
“Blackcurrant, blueberries, tobacco leaf, cocoa, mocha and cola nut. Mineral and stony with grippy, ripe tannins and refreshing acidity. An intense wine that offers immediate pleasure as well as ageing potential.” — Decanter, Feb 2024

About the Vineyard

From the Pago La Encina vineyard in Gumiel de Mercado. Vines with an age of 30 years are grown at an elevation of 860m with a Southern exposure, allowing the grapes to benefit from many hours of sunshine. The calcareous clay soil along with the vineyard’s location limits water and nutrients retention, so that grapes ripen slower and have a greater supply of tannins In addition, this type of soil has a high pH which produces wines with greater body, structure and lower acidity.
