Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino

Wine Description

The Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino is one of three high-end Malbecs first released by the winery in 2007. Like its siblings, the wine exemplifies Nicolás Catena’s success and pioneering research with the Malbec grape in Mendoza. The vines for Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino are carefully chosen from two of the winery’s best vineyard sites: the Adrianna and the Nicasia. In general, significantly lower temperatures characterized the 2004-2005 vintage, resulting in heightened flavor and intense aroma concentration. The unusually cold nighttime lows offered the opportunity for the vines to retain increased levels of natural acids, lending wonderful balance to the fruit as well as excellent freshness.

Acclaim
The 2005 Malbec Argentino is a blend of the Nicasia and Adrianna vineyards. As is often the case, the blend is better (although not by much) than either of the individual components. It offers great complexity both aromatically and on the palate, opulence, great fruit expression and superb aging potential.
— Wine Advocate, Dec 2008
This blend from the Nicasia and Adrianna vineyards is the best Malbec on the market today. There's raisin, mineral, licorice, blackberry and more. The mouth is like a Mack truck on ice skates, meaning it's both huge and elegant. And the mile-long finish of coffee, mocha and molten black fruit is awesome.
