Mirabeau

Brand Description

Founded in 2010 by Stephen and Jeany Cronk, Maison Mirabeau is a renowned, family-owned premium rosé house from Provence, and has consistently won a huge array of awards for its carefully crafted portfolio. The brand is focused on providing different terroir and technical expressions of Provence’s aromatic, dry rosés to give the consumer a delectable journey through the region and its outstanding winemaking abilities. With its innovative DNA, Mirabeau has added a stunningly packaged grape-based Gin to their portfolio, inspired by the botanicals and lifestyle of the French Riviera, which has also scooped up some of the spirits world’s most coveted accolades. The Cronk family moved to Provence from South West London to start on their winemaking journey in 2009 and they work with the best local growers, as well as owning a regeneratively farmed wine estate themselves.

Location of Distillery

The Mirabeau Portfolio of rosé wines aims to express the savoir-faire and terroir specifics of this iconic, sun-drenched rosé wine growing region. The different soils found in the region allow Maison Mirabeau to create cuvées that take the consumer on a journey through the appellation and create Rosés that match different occasions and preferences.

Located 13km from the historic village of La Garde-Freinet and in the commune of the Golfe de Saint-Tropez, Domaine Mirabeau falls within the newly created subregion within the Côtes de Provence AOC, Notre Dame des Anges. The 20-hectare estate includes 14 hectares of vines (principally Grenache, Cinsault, and Rolle) and enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot summers, bright sunlight, and a prevailing easterly wind. Unlike the rest of the region, which is dominated by low, soft-leaved ‘garrigue’ scrubland, this part of Provence is noticeably different with evergreen ‘maquis’ scrubland and stony terrain formed from pink sandstone and sandy soils.

Distilling Philosophy

Showcasing their deep commitment to the environment, Maison Mirabeau switched to 100% renewable energy on all premises in 2021, and became a B-Corp certfied company in 2023. Their regeneratively farmed estate is certified HVE Level 3, and in 2024 became France’s first vineyard to achieve Regenerative Organic Certified® status.

Maison Mirabeau’s winemaking philosophy has always been based on creating interesting rosés that always punch above their price point in terms of quality. They have established an award-winning portfolio, rather than adopting the “one rosé fits all” approach commonly seen on the market.  They are passionate about the region and have always felt proud to show Provence in all its glory, as well as challenging themselves to create award-winning blends year-over-year.  Blending skill is their “superpower” and they have a creative oenological team, always accompanied by the founders, that go through exhaustive sessions to decide on the final, perfect version of each cuvée.  Only the top base wines are chosen from each vintage, which are vinified with a range of sophisticated practices and technology helping to achieve clean aromatic fruit expression. Great Rosé wines mean exact vintage dates, night harvesting with cooling and inert gas technology all along the wine production process to avoid oxidation and excessive color.

Acclaim
“This estate wine from Stephen and Jeany Cronk is a small pet project from their regeneratively farmed vineyard on the Massif des Maures and perfectly illustrates how a classic Provence rosé can be given extra interest with low yields and subtle use of wood. Sweet, creamy saline aromas and extra weight and structure on the palate come from the oak, supporting ripe strawberries and creamy fruit without dominating the flavours. Still very youthful and fresh.” — acclaim for 2022 Mirabeau La Réserve Rosé from Decanter, Jul 2024
“I've always thought this cuvée is a really safe bet if you're looking for a well-made Provence rosé with bright aromatics, full flavour and good freshness…The 2023 has lots of shiny raspberry fruit, with a hint of squashed strawberry. It's round and generous and giving in the mouth, with notes of glacé cherry and a touch of nectarine. Really quite silky.” — acclaim for 2023 Mirabeau Pure Rosé from Decanter, Jul 2024
“Fruit salad, white pepper and soft herbs on the nose. Quite weighty on the palate, with hints of grapefruit pip, ripe pear and a hint of cherry fruit.” — acclaim for 2023 Mirabeau Pure Rosé from Decanter, Jun 2024
