Baterista by Paxton

Baterista by Paxton

Wine Description

The Baterista, or the drummer, is used by cultures from around the world to create a sense of unity or harmony with rhythm, the foundation to all music and the manifestation of time. At Paxton, they  believe there is also rhythm in organic farming, a spiritual-ethical-ecological approach that promotes harmony of all living matter. Organic farming produces socially responsible vineyards of extraordinary health producing high quality wines, and the Baterista is made with 100% organic grapes. The health of the vineyards thrives on the rhythm of life and matter that lies beneath the soil.

The Baterista is crafted in collaboration with Ronnie Vannucci Jr., drummer of The Killers, born from a mutual love of organic, biodynamic, and sustainable farming, and a deep love of music. The Baterista is an exceptional example of a premium single vineyard, hand crafted Shiraz from McLaren Vale that shows great depth and complexity, and the true purity of fruit and vitality in organic, biodynamic winemaking.

Acclaim
“Baterista is the Spanish word for drummer, with this a colab with Ronnie Vannucci, drummer of The Killers. From the Jones block and off vines around 50 years of age, this was destemmed and fermented in small-batch open fermenters, with up to 20 days on skins; matured in French oak for about of 18 months. This was made before current winemaker Ashleigh Seymour’s time. It’s a richly fruited wine laden with blackberries and dark plum, chocolate, oak spice, vanilla, leather and mocha. Slippery, saline and mouth-filling.” — James Halliday, Jun 2024

Wine Production

The grapes are delicately selected and hand-picked in the cool of the morning, destemmed with care, and fermented in small-batch open fermenters for up to 20 days on skins. Pressed straight into high caliber French oak for a minimum of 18 months, only the most spectacular barrels are selected by the winemaker for this exclusive blend. It is then aged in the bottle for two years before release.
