Pikes Los Compañeros

Los Companeros bottle image

Wine Description

Los Companeros, or "The Companions," is all about the relationship between the two varietals of which it composed.  Los Companeros is a blend of 90% Shiraz with 10% Tempranillo sourced from the seventy-five hectares of vineyard planted across the Polish Hill River Estate.

The vineyard site's unique soil composition of red-brown earth over clay mixed with slate and broken bluestone subsoil show through in the structure of the finished wine. The rich softness of the Shiraz component is complimented perfectly by the somewhat rustic tannins of the Tempranillo.  They make very good companions indeed!

Acclaim
“The fruity appeal of sun-drenched red berries with fistfuls of scrubby herbs and spices opens. It’s an in-between weight with plump fruit and a tug of chalky tannins that emerge toward the finish. Pair it with a Moroccan lamb dish.” (Best Buy) — Wine Enthusiast, Dec 2024
“This feels fun. A juicy, vivacious and slurpy red with quiet complexity. Scents of raspberry, cherry cola, anise, mint and eucalyptus. Sloshes around the palate nicely, almost jelly in texture with cool acidity underlying. Flavours roll around with more of the raspberry, cherry and anise with a dash of white pepper, too. A jolly good time to be had. Could also handle a light chill.”
— James Halliday, Dec 2022
