Torrontés bottle image

Wine Description

The Tilia wines are made at Bodegas Esmeralda in the Eastern region of Mendoza. They are made by Alejandro Viggiani, a winemaker and viticulturist in charge of all Catena family vineyards in Eastern Mendoza. Torrontés is indigenous to Argentina and has a unique profile that has quickly made it the country's signature white grape. The high altitude vineyard where the Tilia Torrontés grapes are sourced sits at an incredibly high 5,577 feet above sea level.

Acclaim
“I tasted four wines, starting with the 2012 Tilia Torrontes which is produced with grapes sourced from Cafayate in Salta, in the north of Argentina. Here the challenge is to keep the freshness without acidifying, which is a real challenge, because the Torrontes Riojano has inherited the low acidity of its father, the Muscat grape. They are experimenting with higher yields and very early harvesting. The wine is un-oaked, fermented in stainless steel (and a small part in cement), with no malolactic. The nose immediately screams “Muscat!”, showing white flowers, orange blossom, orange peel and a spicy, musky character. It is medium-bodied, perfumed and aromatic, with a bittersweet finish. It feels like drinking roses.”
