Tramin Unterebner

Unterebner Pinot Grigio Alto Adige DOC bottle image

Wine Description

This wine is not your typical Pinot Grigio. Made from hand-selected grapes from the Unterebnerhof vineyard in Alto Adige, most of the wine (80%) is refined in large oak casks and the remaining part is aged in barriques. After seven to eight months of lees contact, the resulting wine is incredibly rich, refined and elegant.

Acclaim
“The 2010 Pinot Grigio Unterebner was aged in oak, which adds quite a bit of volume and texture, but also marks the flavor profile to a significant degree. It is a shame to cover the distinctiveness of Alto Adige here. Ultimately, the oak has flattened much of the varietal and regional character.”
— Wine Advocate, Feb 2012
“Golden yellow. Intense aromas of ripe pear, applesauce, caramel and coffee have a slightly oxidative note. Rich, ripe and dense but with lemony acidity providing clarity and cut to the rich fruit and coffee flavors. Finishes with noteworthy salinity and an almost chewy quality, followed by a whiplash of oak. Much better on the complex palate today than the overly herbal, slightly evolved nose. This also became mustier with aeration.”
— Ian D’Agata, Mar 2017
