Villa Maria Single Vineyard Keltern Chardonnay

Wine Description

The Keltern Vineyard was established in 1999. Sitting east of Maraekakaho and hugging the western edge of the Bridge Pa Triangle and the Ngaruroro river, this unique site has over time become synonymous with exceptional Chardonnay, earning it’s pace amongst New Zealand’s finest with an unparalleled consistency in blind tasting success across multiple formats since the initial 2002 vintage.

Acclaim
“The 2021 Keltern Chardonnay leads with fresh buttered popcorn, sesame brittle, toasted cashews, yellow peach and even cantaloupe. In the mouth, the wine is fleshy and plump, with loads of plump yellow fruit, saffron and peppercorns. Exotic. Lush, even. There are pistachios and pineapple husk. Very ripe, with juicy acid.” — Wine Advocate, Feb 2024
“I like the flinty and subtly smoky notes here with sea shell undertones to the ripe apricots, grapefruits, peaches and toasted hazelnuts. It's full-bodied with bright acidity. Layered and sophisticated, with a beautiful balance of perfectly ripe fruit, spice and minerality. Long and textured.”
— James Suckling, Nov 2022
