Botromagno Pier delle Vigne

Pier delle Vigne Murgia IGT bottle image

Wine Description

The namesake of this wine, Pier delle Vigne, was the right-hand man of Frederick II of Swabia and the one who is credited with introducing the first red wine grapes to Puglia. “His” wine is painstakingly produced from Montepulciano and Aglianico grapes grown in the winery’s finest vineyards in the Murge hills. This blend successfully marries the structure and aging potential of Aglianico with the softness and fruitiness of Montepulciano. The final wine is powerful yet elegant and has become one of Puglia's most sought-after treasures.

Acclaim
“The 2015 Pier delle Vigne Murgia pulls you close to the glass with its bouquet of dusty dried roses, red currants, black cherries and incense. Its silky textures usher in tart woodland berries and savory spices, nicely lifted by brisk acids, as slow-mounting tannins collect toward the close. This finishes structured and long, yet with enough residual fruit to balance, as salty minerals, tobacco and licorice linger. The Pier delle Vigne, an interesting blend of 60% Aglianico and 40% Montepulciano, has medium-term cellar potential, but be careful not to strain yourself while handling the incredibly heavy bottle that Botromagno chose to place it in."

“A blend of 60% Aglianico and 40% Montepulciano, this wine offers aromas of dried red berries, crushed black pepper, game and dried hibiscus on the nose. The palate is developed and soft in feel, with mild tannins and bright acidity carrying flavors that echo the nose. Enjoy in the near term.”
