Castellare Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico DOCG bottle image

Wine Description

Made from 95% Sangioveto and 5% Canaiolo harvested from estate vineyards located 1,200 feet above sea level, in the heart of Chianti Classico. After harvest, the grapes are crushed, de-stemmed and macerated in contact with the skins for 15-20 days. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred to 225 and 500 liter barrels for seven months.

Acclaim
The sour cherry fruit and cedar accents here are in balance, right down the middle of the divide between the old and new styles. This wine cuts a fairly lean profile, as do more than few of the 1998s, and finishes dry with moderate tannins.
— Wine Enthusiast, Apr 2001
[E]xhibits aromas of bing cherries, tobacco, and almonds. Tasty, elegant, and pleasant, it is meant to be drunk over the next several years.
