Castello di Neive Barbaresco

Barbaresco DOCG bottle image

Wine Description

The grapes for this wine come from some of the most-respected vineyards in the Barbaresco DOCG (Gallina, Messoirano, Valtorta, and a part of Santo Stefano).  It is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown on vines that average 30 years of age.  The grapes for this wine are pressed and then allowed to mature in wooden vats for 2 years to smooth the tannins and develop the wines’ complex flavors.

Acclaim
“The Barbaresco is an attractive entry level offering. Floral and nicely lifted, with lovely inner sweetness, the 2019 is quite attractive today. I would give the tannins a year or two to soften. Otherwise, the 2019 is very nicely done. When it comes to a Barbaresco that is ready to go right now, this is pretty hard to beat.”

“Beautiful medium-deep garnet; aromas of orange peel, morel cherry, currant and cedar. Medium-full, this is a beautifully realized wine with excellent Barbaresco character and typicity. There is ideal ripe fruit, very good acidity, subdued wood notes and impressive persistence; the finish offers an appealing mix of cherry and currant fruit with subtle notes of oregano and tobacco. Skillfully made with excellent complexity and wonderful harmony. Not a powerful wine, but one with charm and tradition with a reserved approach. Lovely expression of Barbaresco and a stellar food wine. Enjoyable tonight; peak in 7-10 years.”
