Wine Description

Quinta de Chocapalha Tinto is a blend of indigenous Portuguese varietals sourced from 16th century vineyards 28 miles northwest of Lisbon. Fermented in traditional granite lagares and stainless steel, the wine is then refined for 18 months in French oak barriques.

Acclaim
“Aged for 18 months in wood, this impressive ripe wine is full of fruit and also a firm, smoky tannic structure. The partial fermentation in open stone tanks has given the wine an extra dimension of richness. This is a fine, concentrated wine that is now ready to drink.” (Editors’ Choice)
— Wine Enthusiast, Jun 2016
“The 2011 Tinto is a blend of 45% Touriga Nacional, 20% Tinta Roriz, 15% Touriga Franca and 10% each of Castelão and Alicante Bouschet. It comes in with 13.5% alcohol. Fresh and graceful, it is fruity, but the fruit is defined, focused and rather lifted, well supported by the beautiful structure. It shows finesse in the mid-palate to go with the intensity of flavor. It tightens with air and shows off a real but controlled backbone. It seems ever brighter and more elegant as it airs, a fine follow up to the 2010, but perhaps fresher and livelier. This is a lovely 2011, one of the best yet in this bottling. It is a fine bargain. A year or two of cellaring should improve it, although it is certainly fully approachable now.”
