Acclaim
“Intense and powerful dark berries, red cherries and barrel spices. Silky, polished tannins and acidity underpin bright red fruit.” — Decanter, Jun 2024
“The 2021 Pinot Noir Taylors Pass is a brooding, rich, smoky style. It evokes intriguing aromatics of herbs like sage and thyme alongside licorice and ripe, concentrated fruit. There's a luxuriant, creamy element to this Pinot, both texturally and flavor-wise; the tannins are mouthcoating, leaving you licking the inside of your cheeks, such is their viscous nature on the long, scented, savory finish. The 2021 is a thoughtfully made wine in an excellent vintage.” — Vinous, May 2024

Wine Production

The Taylor Pass Pinot Noir fruit is planted on a mixture of soils. Stony soil that contributes fresh floral and red cherry fruit aromas, whereas silty loam soil provides earthy dense tannins and dark berry fruit flavors. The various clones and differing soil types are harvested separately to provide winemakers with as many flavor and texture options to choose from for this single vineyard wine.

About the Vineyard

Taylors Pass Vineyard sits on the northern bank of the Awatere River, running east to west through the Awatere valley and out to the Clifford Bay in the Pacific Ocean. The vineyard is warm and sheltered from the cool southerly breezes that flow down through the valley from the mountains.
