Castello di Neive Barbaresco

Barbaresco DOCG bottle image

Wine Description

The grapes for this wine come from some of the most-respected vineyards in the Barbaresco DOCG (Gallina, Messoirano, Valtorta, and a part of Santo Stefano).  It is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown on vines that average 30 years of age.  The grapes for this wine are pressed and then allowed to mature in wooden vats for 2 years to smooth the tannins and develop the wines’ complex flavors.

Acclaim
“This takes a few minutes to open up in the glass before revealing alluring classic Nebbiolo scenes of wild red berry, sweet cake spice and a balsamic note. The palate is spot on; delivering juice raspberry, wild cherry, black tea, ground pepper, cinnamon, chopped herb and a hint of pipe tobacco. Firm, glossy tannins and bright acidity give it an elegant structure.”
— Wine Enthusiast, Oct 2015
“A gracious, mid-weight wine, Castello di Neive's 2012 Barbaresco speaks to precision. Freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries, mint and cinnamon are some of the many notes that flesh out in the glass. Silky, polished tannins only add to the wine's considerable near and medium-term appeal. There is plenty to like, including the wine's overall balance. The finish is perhaps a touch slender, but there is plenty of Nebbiolo intrigue here, especially once the wine has had a bit of air. The straight Barbaresco is made from a blend of sites, including the lower slopes of Santo Stefano, plus parcels in Gallina, San Cristoforo and Serra Cappelli, all of which are estate owned.”
