Don Luigi was made in tribute to Don Luigi Di Majo Norante, the patriarch of this estate. The wine undergoes a period of extended maceration to achieve incredible color and concentration before being refined further in Allier and Tronçais barriques for 12-18 months. The resulting wine is a benchmark expression of Montepulciano from the Molise region.

“The 2016 Don Luigi Riserva soothes with its sweetly scented and layered display of ripe blackberries, cherries, dusty florals, incense and hints of milk chocolate. It’s silky and pliant in feel, lifted by brisk acids as ripe wild berries and savory spices saturate, leaving a coating of fine tannins in their wake. While structured and persistent, this finishes quite fresh, tapering off to notes of tobacco and licorice. This blend of 90% Montepulciano to 10% Aglianico is, without a doubt, geared more toward international palates, yet it does a fine job of coming across as enjoyable and well-balanced.”
