Wine Description

The vineyards that dot the countryside of the small town of Ciró Marina overlook the Ionian Sea and benefit from cool ocean breezes, producing grapes with spicy and floral aromas. Ciró Rosato is made from 100% Gaglioppo, the area's most important varietal, picked in late September/early October. After 12 hours of skin contact, the must is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruit’s bright color and fresh flavor.

Acclaim
Salmon-pink color. Delicate iodine and cranberry nuances accent bright pink grapefruit and sour red cherry aromas, with a pretty wild strawberry quality adding depth. Pungent, smoky red berry fruit is somewhat reminiscent of pinot noir, with complicating mineral notes adding energy and verve. This finishes long and creamy, with an obvious sweetness from some well-judged residual sugar. Interesting and very satisfying rose.

Good - Crushed strawberry with peppery spice. Ripe, plush; a little alcohol showing. Mineral punch and grip on the finish. The wine is 100 percent Gaglioppo, which is prevalent in Calabria, Italy; when vinified as red wine, it has been described by some as a straightforward Nebbiolo.
