Tiefenbrunner Feldmarschall von Fenner

Feldmarschall von Fenner Müller-Thurgau Alto Adige DOC bottle image

Wine Description

This beautifully crafted wine is made from 100% Müller-Thurgau. The vineyards sit on the high plateau of Fennberg, protected from the northerly winds and ripened in a unique microclimate. At an elevation of 3,300 feet above sea level, these are among the highest Müller-Thurgau vineyards in Europe. The wine is named after Franz Philipp Freiherr von Fenner zu Fennberg, founder of the Austrian Kaiserjäger (soldiers of the Austrian emperor), who once used this picturesque Hofstatt as a summer residence.

Acclaim
“Feldmarschall has always been one of Italy’s greatest, most age worthy white wines. It’s made from grapes grown on loamy-limestone soils in the Hofstatt vineyard at 1,000m – one of the country’s highest. The cool climate and highly mineral soils account for this wine’s laser-like acidity and extremely refined aromas and flavors that are striking in their crystalline quality. It spends seven months on its lees and ages in a mix of concrete vats, large, old oak barrels and stainless steel tanks.”
— Decanter, Apr 2016
“A wild, exotic wine, the 2013 Müller Thurgau Feldmarschall offers up a compelling mélange of apricot, gingerbread, wild honey and chamomile notes. Intense mineral notes punctuate the super-expressive finish. The 2013 is without question one of the most eccentric Müller Thurgaus I have ever tasted, and yet it all works.”
