Librandi Efeso

Efeso Mantonico Val di Neto IGT bottle image

Wine Description

Efeso is made from 100% Mantonico, one of the many indigenous grape varieties of Calabria that were cultivated for centuries before almost disappearing completely. Efeso (Ephesus), is the name of the Greek colony located in Turkey, from where the Librandis believe the Mantonico grapes originate. Librandi is dedicated to recovering these historic grapes, of which Mantonico is one of the most important. The grapes are hand harvested at the beginning of October from the vineyards located in the Val di Neto area. In order to add roundness and softness, malolactic fermentation is completed in one and two year old barriques. Efeso is aged for ten months in oak barriques for extra refinement.

Acclaim
Lightly burnt piecrust, with hints of honeysuckle and lemon peel. Full-bodied, with a silky, verging on oily texture and a long finish. An interesting wine, with loads of character. From the local Mantonico grape. Drink now.
— Wine Spectator, Aug 2008
Here's a surprise hit from Calabria - a region known more for its red wines - with exotic fruit, almond paste, butter and mature melon. The wine tastes smooth and creamy thanks to a bit of oak aging and makes a perfect companion to fish or pasta.
