Wine Description

Elegant and classic Pinot Noir that fits the name "Grandfather."  Laura has a profound respect for what grandparents do for children, and she wanted to honor their love and wisdom with this wine.

Acclaim
Tilts savory, with loam, thyme, chicory and fresh tobacco details to the spiced black cherry and raspberry core. A push of acidity on the finish lends a mouthwatering quality. — Wine Spectator, Feb 2025
“Grand Père only uses the 115 clone and uses material from older vines. The whole bunch component is an assertive 50% here, giving the wine structure and layers of clove and tobacco leaf. Racy, savoury and spicy, it has fine tannins, bright acidity and the faintest hint of oak sweetness.” — Tim Atkin, MW, Jun 2024

Wine Production

Fermented with 20% whole clusters and indigenous yeast. Fermentation is split evenly between a 600L oak roll-fermentor and stainless-steel tanks.  Punch-down extraction is done by hand, and the maximum fermentation temperature only reaches 25 degrees Celsius. Malolactic fermentation took place in the barrel.

About the Vineyard

Villa Bastias is located in Tupungato within the Uco Valley.  Domaine Nico’s Grand Mère and Grand Père parcels are nearly 30 years old, planted in Villa Bastías with Dijon Clones (115) in 1993. The Grand Père parcel is more shaded, producing wines with notes of red fruits, minerality, and high acidity. Winemaking is traditional and gentle for these delicate wines. Yields are extremely low due to the age of the vineyard.
