Domaine Nico Grand Mère

Wine Description

Elegant and classic Pinot Noir that fits the name "Grandmother".  Laura has a profound respect for what grandparents do for children, and she wanted to honor their love and wisdom with this wine.

Acclaim
“Palish medium red. Salty aromas of strawberry, mocha and crushed stone enlivened by a peppery stem component. Juicy, fine-grained and uncompromisingly dry, conveying a strong impression of terroir. Distinctly red flavors of raspberry, red cherry and strawberry display sneaky saline intensity and umami character. Finishes with palate-staining persistence and a light touch. This wine and the Grand Père were aged in used 500-liter barrels (from a south-facing parcel on limestone soil with rocks in the Villa Bastías vineyard; vinified entirely with whole clusters).”

“The 2017 Grand Mère Pinot Noir showed more ripeness than its siblings, with notes of red cherries and spices. It's juicy and fresh, quite straightforward, pleasant and easy to drink. There is a touch of spicy oak here that makes it quite attractive. This comes from Villa Bastías.”

About the Vineyard

Villa Bastias is located in Tupungato within the Uco Valley.  The vineyard is old and planted with Dijon Clones in 1993.  The Grand Mère parcel gets more sun than the Grand Pere block, with generous and silky tannins. Winemaking is traditional and gentle for these delicate wines.  Yields are extrememly low in both sites due to the age of the vineyard.
