Wine Description

Elegant and classic Pinot Noir that fits the name "Grandmother".  Laura has a profound respect for what grandparents do for children, and she wanted to honor their love and wisdom with this wine.

Acclaim
“Crafted by Argentinian maker Domaine Nico, Grand Mere Pinot Noir will light up the darkening skies of your evenings. The black pepper and brown spice flavors are warming, while mineral-rich earthy tones offer a mouthful that is as grounding as the dirt underneath falling leaves. The tree foliage may be feeling empty this time of year, but pour a glass of this pinot noir and you certainly won't be. It may even give you the kick needed to pull out the yard rake (or put up your feet and hunker down.)”
— Mashed, Nov 2021
“From vineyards in Villa Bastías, in southern Tupungato and about 1,120 meters above sea level, this pinot was fermented with 20% whole clusters. It spent 18 months in barrels, all of used oak. The total production of the two-hectare block was about 8,000 bottles for this very fresh pinot with 12.9% alcohol and earthy notes that combine with ripe red fruit flavors accompanied by light spicy touches. Given its tannic tension, it would work very well with grilled tuna.”

About the Vineyard

Villa Bastias is located in Tupungato within the Uco Valley.  The vineyard is old and planted with Dijon Clones in 1993.  The Grand Mère parcel gets more sun than the Grand Pere block, with generous and silky tannins. Winemaking is traditional and gentle for these delicate wines.  Yields are extrememly low in both sites due to the age of the vineyard.
