Wine Description

Elegant and classic Pinot Noir that fits the name "Grandmother".  Laura has a profound respect for what grandparents do for children, and she wanted to honor their love and wisdom with this wine.

Acclaim
“One of a range of brilliant Pinot Noirs from the youthful Roy Urvieta, Grand Mère comes from a two-hectare parcel plamted with 115 and 667 Dijon clones in Villa Bastías. Fermented with 20% whole clusters, it has succulent wild strawberry and pomegranate fruit, graceful tannins and a tangy finish.” — Tim Atkin, MW, Jun 2024
“The 2022 Pinot Noir Grand Mère hails from Villa Bastías in the Uco Valley and was aged for ten months in French oak, 18% in a 20-hectoliter foudre and 82% in third-use barrels. Ruby-red in the glass. The herbal nose offers sweet and sour cherry notes intertwined with damp earth and rose petals, with the profile made more complex by forest undergrowth hints. The palate is lean and refreshing, with a taut mouthfeel and wild character before the lingering sage-inflected finish. The 2022 is a distinctive, layered Pinot Noir.”

About the Vineyard

Villa Bastias is located in Tupungato within the Uco Valley.  The vineyard is old and planted with Dijon Clones in 1993.  The Grand Mère parcel gets more sun than the Grand Pere block, with generous and silky tannins. Winemaking is traditional and gentle for these delicate wines.  Yields are extrememly low in both sites due to the age of the vineyard.
